The Idea of writing a book as a step by step guide into breaking a seven
year old Shire mare is to be commended. It is even more
commendable that it is written with great feeling, humour and technical
correctness. This makes it a unique understanding.
Elaine Bolton has used her
training as a Qualified British Horse Society Assistant Instructor to
produce this enterprising book. With great determination she
continued with her task when lesser mortals would have given in.
As a Breed the Shire Horse is
not considered a riding horse in this country but overseas, particularly in
Europe, most are ridden. In recent years over a hundred have been
exported each year to Europe. The fact that Lady was seven years
old at the commencement of the venture makes it even more remarkable but
it does show the temperament of the Shire Horse. It is never too
late to learn for a horse or rider.
This book is a must for all
horse lovers. Everybody will relate to the problems overcome by
Elaine Bolton. It is written with great humour and her
determination and dedication to the horse shows through. It is an
accurate reference book for anybody breaking in a horse.
